Breathing fire, exhaling ice.
For all it's worth, while you stay in this place.
Come take a look around and see what you've done.
Isn't it fun to look in the mirror
and see your smiling face so much clearer?
Putting clothes back on yourself
after sleeping on over at my place still.
Can't you tell, from my expressions,
what you're doing to me?
It's ten at night, I think it's time
for you to get out of my life.
But then I watched your naked body remain.

Clothes For Fools
06:10
|
|||
Heaven is melting all around.
All around me.
Everything seems strange.
And nothing seems the same anymore.
I'm wondering how you're doing without me.
Is there still love? Is there still hate?
Together we'd know with the sign of fate.
Alone I deal with the mess I made.
I'm a lost face without that mask
you made me wear.
Sitting still and doing the things
you wanted me to do.
Where did I go wrong? Were too many songs sung badly?
I'll never know your words, so cruel.
You're dressing me up in clothes for fools.
I take it.
I fake the things that I do.
I fake it all with my fake book.
I need some help with the eyes you took.
I'll never understand your funny motives
as I keep saying, "What if...?"

Distant Coward Island
12:10
|
|||
Stranded on a distant coward island
and I feel okay.
The sand is hot and wet
and I love the ocean waves,
oh, I love them.
Reaching for the stars
and making them my pet.
Oh, I won't regret.
Sitting on a washed up table;
it's my only friend.
Don't discourage me,
I just like to pretend;
and pretend I will.
So far it's been pleasant
to be stuck out here
without any fear.
And it seems so simple
to forget all the troubles.
The green island grass
likes to give me the giggles.
I miss the pennsylvania
jungles, they juggle on and on.
Hanging on in quiet despiration
might be my only way.
My time is here and it's not over,
day after day.
I'm happy you are here with me.
I'm happy I am here with you.
You're the only one
I'll ever get to talk to.
This story here is one that I'll tell to
everyone, rides inside carousels.

Ellston Road
06:40
|
|||
While I waited for her
to come back home to me,
I heard all the things
she said about me.
"I love you, I love you,
I can't wait for your smile.
I'll be running on down
through every mile."
So I picked up my old guitar
and packed it on in,
inside of my case
with my chords and lyrics
that talked about the love
that I have for her.
The songs that I've made,
the songs that she's heard.
She parked her car right outside
on Ellston Road
where I could see her approaching
outside my window.
So I ran down the stairs
and we hugged for a while.
She said, "Baby, I'm glad,
I'm glad to see you smile."
We rushed into her car
to go back to the place
where I asked for her hand
as she touched my face.
I always thought things would go
like they did in movies:
A love story with laughs
and happy endings.
So she wrote me a song
filled with words of love
as she ripped off the rhythm
from a Mark Twain song
It said, "Violet skies, open wide.
Welcome me with the gentle night.
Look at how the dark birds fly.
This is my paradise: Violet Skies."
I know that it's hard
but I have to pull through
this heartache, this confusion
she made me go through.
I can't think of how
she always looked so lovely,
but now she's lost faith,
all faith in me.
It's all been tough
but I'm pulling through
these questions, these answers
I never knew,
because I always seem to think
how lovely is she?
As she's lost hope, all hope in me.
